Collaborative project

Collaborative Project

Plans for my collaborative project:

  • Create an EP collaboratively with Kam and Aiden
  • 3-4 alternative funk songs
  • Design an album cover
  • Gig with some of our music?
We are trying to achieve a heavier funk sound, throwing in different aspects of different genres to create something new and original. We hope to record our songs in the studios for release on Spotify and potentially gig, whether thats inside or outside of college.

In order to accomplish this, we need the following resources: a studio (preferably C17), a wah wah pedal for the bass??, a social media to promote our upcoming release, a hard drive, a camera and photoshop to create the album cover.

Meeting 1

Our roles in the project:
Aiden - Sound engineering and studio work
Kam - Scouting for gigs and potential venues
Me - Social media and Marketing

6 Week creative plan

Week 1 - finish first song
Week 2/3 - create and finish second song
Week 4/5 - create and finish third song
Week 6 - Clean up anything we missed and begin to think about approaching recording progress.

Song 1 progression

This week we have began to develop our first song idea. I've created a few bass lines  as well as Aiden creating a beat for the song. Lyrics have been harder to compose than we thought, and Kam is still in the process of producing a melody line for us. We've decided to make a freaky structure, making it harder to get tight but with practice we should get it up to standard.

Structure:
Intro - 8 bars
Pre verse (1) - 4 bars
Pre verse (2) - 4 bars
Verse - 8 bars
Chorus - 2 bars
Verse - 2 bars
Chorus - 2 bars
Verse - 2 bars
potential bass solo??? - 2 bars
potential drum solo??? - 2 bars

Changing Plans

Due to finding a university course that I am interested in, I have decided to completely change my collaborative project. I am going to lean into the less practical side by exploring music management and business. I have volunteered myself to manage my friends band for the duration of my collaborative project to see if i can make any progress with them.

I would like to broaden their fanbase and interactions on social media via marketing and promotion, book and arrange gigs by getting in contact with venues, create a website, put forward ideas for progression and general management.

Emailing Venues:

I spent some time reaching out to music venues and pubs with live music in and around Somerset with gig enquiries for the band.

6 Week Promotion and Marketing plan for future track drop:

Week 1: Release track drop date on social media.
Week 2: Tease song on Instagram stories and TikTok with hashtag name of song.
Week 3: Create Album cover and continue teasing snippets.
Week 4: Drop track
Week 5: Create social media campaign involving viewers posting themselves listening to the song with the hashtag name of song.
Week 6: Continue reposting fans stories and promoting song
